Cleveland Model Railway Club’s first ever 009 layout was started by the late Des Robinson, and became a fascinating project to complete for club members Adam Cracknell, Ian Ward and Martin Smith. After a build encompassing almost 2 years, the layout made its debut at CMRC’s Redcar show in August 2015, and has been present at a few other local shows since. The layout is totally freelance, and takes its scenic inspirations from the Welsh Highland, Ffestiniog and Talyllyn railways. The slate quarry is part of an intermediate station on a line running from the coast to the hills, and the layout features a real gradient. The locos and rolling stock are mostly all kit-built and hand-painted by Adam, with the odd r-t-r item making an appearance.
